The Collections

Art is not just a painting on a wall, or in the case of the Butterworth home, on the ceiling.  Art is all around us which is especially evident in the Deere family homes. Quite a few years ago a painting was found stored away in Deere-Wiman House. After cleaning by a conservator, initials and a date became visible on the portrait of a young lady.  This discovery led to the painting becoming the feature of a 5th/6th grade art program, “Portrait of a Lady”.

As part of the school program, pieces from our art collection were photographed and  descriptions written. Enjoy the pictures and information, of some of the wonderful works of art in the collections of Deere-Wiman House and Butterworth Center.
